Rachna Ravikiran’s Unicorn Art Club
A year ago, a banker turned writer Rachna Ravikiran, ventured out with a bag of colours. Children from her neighbourhood joined her as she sat down to draw. What started as a Satsang (group meeting in Sanskrit), soon became a regular gathering that manifested into a creative learning centre called Unicorn Art Club (UAC).
Today, Unicorn Art Club is unique in its own way. Unlike other learning centres, UAC is open for everyone and is monetarily free. Children can walk in anytime, learn new things and pursue their interest in arts & crafts without incurring any fees. The place is managed by Rachna with the support of her family members and her friend, Durga Prasad. Another key member of the core team is Ginger, the four-legged eco-warrior of UAC, who is a part of every gathering.
UAC’s community centre is stationed at the suburbs of Hosakerehalli, Bengaluru. The place has a hall for activities, a mini library and an open veranda, a part of which is now a small garden. Children at the club indulge in many creative activities. They draw, make crafts, sing, and even practice yoga & meditation. The centre is constantly abuzz with kids being themselves.
Apart from creative learning, the children of UAC also step up as eco-warriors! UAC organizes awareness campaigns across the city. They make hand-drawn placards of slogans about the earth and walk the streets to voice out the issues concerning the environment. They also formed ‘Paw-Patrol’ to feed hungry stray dogs. Recently, they also contributed to the needy by facilitating them with old clothes and essentials which were donated for the cause.
Rachna pursued her passion for writing after letting go of a corporate job at a reputed firm. With Unicorn Art Club, she is on a humanitarian mission for the wellbeing of society and the environment. While the challenges are many, she is determined to follow the path of her inner calling to nurture the young minds of today for a better tomorrow.
