Samjith’s Art Life: In His Own Words

I happened to meet Samjith during a drawing session he had mentored in Bangalore. During the session, I also got acquainted with his artsy side when he shared a compilation of Artworks from DMS-LKMS, a Mysore based Art College. To top it all he even won a medal from his campus later that year for his finesse in Art. A person of such artistic caliber truly deserves to be known; and that too from his point of view. The following is about Samjith’s Art Life – In his own words.

Being a member of a family having a tradition of fine art, it was my destiny to become an established artist in India. My first art teacher is none other than my father. He gave me the first lessons to start my journey in the field of art. My bother has been a great inspiration so far in my life. He guided me to improve my skills. My family legacy of art is actually a blessing handed over to me and it has been my power so far.

The Kerala school art festival, which is known as the biggest art event for youth in Asia has been a great platform for me. I represented my district in the state level competitions and it was a great experience for any artist to get advice from the famous great artist of the world. The pinnacle in my life happened after my basic education, it was my decision to join “Kerala School of Arts” at Thalassery in Kannur district of Kerala. The school was like a university for me, my skill flourished during those most valuable two years.

The digital world of art was strange to me until I reached Bangalore as my skills were gradually being digitized. I chose the profession of a creative designer. I worked for years in Bangalore and later in Abu Dhabi, UAE as an Art director. But still, my dream of doing a fine arts degree was pending and it was hardly manageable with my profession. It was a turning point when I found my graduation college Dakshina Maha Sabha – Lalitha Kala Academy is known as DMS-LKMS in short. It is an Institute that has the ambiance of a Gurukul. With facilitators having excellence in the field, they helped me to develop my passion. The basis of designing and its theory from the early ages where new to many of the designers including me even after having much experience in the field, and which is the most valuable lesson given by my college and facilitators.

A degree in Bachelor of Fine Arts with Applied Arts specialization given by DMS from Karnataka State Open University is really an asset for the artists who missed their college. Learning with different artists of different age groups and from different parts of India were good moments of my life. It is an honor to get the top rank from Karnataka State Open University in BFA. I thank my teachers for their valuable contribution to my achievement.

Now I am back to my old life, but still, the hangover of being in a college is with me. Inspirations by my teachers still motivate me to pursue higher studies in visual arts. I personally recommend all artists who have missed their college to join DMS-LKMS. It is a great learning platform with the joy of a holiday celebration.

Currently, I am working in a multinational agency as a creative director.

Below are just a few of his many art works which he agreed to share with us:
