Sumit’s B-Boy Life

Sumit is a native of Belgaum, living in Bangalore and pursuing a course in VFX. After classes, he endows a profession in Hip Hop and Breaking which is also known as B-Boying. Sumit has a twin brother, Amit, who shares an equal passion in the stream. The duo goes by the name of Twinster’s Hood and has performed for corporate events, productions, reality shows, and competitive events. Their lives have been moving to the beats of B-Boy ever since they stepped up to their passion.
I had a conversation with one of these twins and this is what he had to say.

What is B-Boy dance mean to you?

It taught me how to express myself. It means the life to me.

Why did you choose this path as a profession?

People would tell me that this style of dance is tough and isn’t easy for people like me. When I started to understand what breaking is and how its done, that is when I began loving it even more. Thus B-Boying began as a passion and this is now a profession.

What were your ups and downs as a B-Boy?

After getting involved with breaking and performing at battles, people eventually began respecting my skills. Eventually, my brother and I started getting more shows and recognition.

On the downside, my parents and elders would negate me with discouraging comments. Friends would tease the dance as a mere circus act. We took these negative vibes as a challenge and let our dedication toward dance prove them wrong.

What is the B-Boy move/stunt you’re known for?

It’s called the Air-Chair. It is a difficult move. My brother and I put in a lot of effort to perfect that. So, that would be my signature move.

Which was the most challenging cypher event you’ve faced?

An international B-Boy event called Battle Of The Year in 2013. It was a showcase round to exhibit our moves. I must say, that was tough.

A B-Boy / B-Girl you look up to and why?

BBoy Physicx. He was known to be the father of moves and came up with his own creative moves. His moves are too fast. He is someone I would aspire to be like.

Is there any particular goal you wish to accomplish as a B-Boy?

There is no particular goal as such. But, I would want to spread the culture. This is the art where people get to push beyond the edge of the envelope of their physical capabilities.
